Ranger-led

Our Ranger-led sessions provide the opportunity to learn about nature under the guidance of experts with an in-depth knowledge of the plants, birds and animals that live in our beautiful park. We also have an excellent, modern classroom that allows our education offer to adapt to the elements and seasons.

Ranger-led sessions typically run from 10am – 12pm. Your booking includes exclusive use of Y Nyth from your arrival until 1pm – so why not stay for lunch?

Choose TWO of these activities in any combination for £4 per child:

Nature Walk

Take a walk on the wild side! Leading you through flower-filled meadows and species rich woodlands our rangers will teach you about everything from how a seed becomes a tree to where animals love to live.

Minibeast Hunting

Roll up your sleeves, pull on your wellies and explore the muddy world inhabited by minibeasts. Based in our enchanting nature garden, this ranger-led hunt will get you up close to a range of creepy crawlies including worms, slugs, millipedes and beetles.

Pond Dipping

Grab a net, tray and magnifying glass and get to know the fascinating underwater life of Bryngarw’s ponds. A ranger will help you identify the weird and wonderful creatures that lurk beneath the surface, from tadpoles to water boatmen.

Nature Journaling

Draw what you see! What colour beak does that bird have? What shape are the leaves? How many legs does that bug have? Use nature journaling to figure out what you can see around Bryngarw Country Park. This ranger-led activity will teach you how to identify species of trees, minibeasts and birds.

Mini Raft Building

Scavenge for materials around the park and make your own mini raft! Your rafts will be put to the test in a race on the River Garw! Who will sink and who will sail to victory?

Welsh Words in Nature (Bilingual Session)

Did you know that a jay is called a ‘scream of the woods’ in Welsh? Or that dragonflies as ‘servants of snakes’? Welsh is a very descriptive language that can help us make sense of our surroundings. With the help of our ranger team, we can explore nature through Welsh species names.

Coach or minibus parking is £20, which applies whether it remains parked or does a drop-off and pick up. Please contact the rangers to add this to your booking.
