Direct experience of the natural world is a vital part of a child’s education. At Bryngarw we’ve spent many years delivering exciting nature-based learning experiences for school parties, so we know how to ensure children get the most out of a visit here.
Our ranger-led sessions provide the opportunity to learn about nature under the guidance of experts with an in-depth knowledge of the plants, birds and animals that live in our beautiful park. We also have an excellent, modern classroom that allows our education offer to adapt to the elements and seasons.
Our ranger-led sessions run every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Take your pick from:
Nature walks
Take a walk on the wild side! Leading you through flower-filled meadows, deep, dark woods and along the riverbanks, our rangers will teach you about everything from how a seed becomes a tree to where animals love to live.
Minibeast hunting
Roll up your sleeves, pull on your wellies and explore the muddy world inhabited by minibeasts. Based in our enchanting nature garden, this ranger-led hunt will get you up close to a range of creepy crawlies including worms, slugs, millipedes and beetles.
Pond dipping
Grab a net, tray and magnifying glass and get to know the fascinating underwater life of Bryngarw’s ponds. A ranger will help you identify the weird and wonderful creatures that lurk beneath the surface, from tadpoles to water boatmen.
Shelter building
Could you make a sturdy den using only branches and leaves? Join our rangers to discover what makes a good survival shelter and get to work building your own cosy creation! This activity is great for teambuilding, co-operation, and imagination. The two-hour stand-alone session includes a bushcraft-themed nature walk as well as the shelter building activity.
