Richard Hughes, Chief Executive of Awen Cultural Trust, said:
“We are delighted that Bryngarw Country Park has retained its Green Flag for the eighth year running and its Green Heritage Accreditation for the fifth time. With our partners at BCBC and Valleys Regional Park, we have invested over £1 million the Park, to significantly improve the visitor experience, increase accessibility and sustainability and offer a high quality green space for social, physical and mental wellbeing.
“We are not complacent, however, and will continue to find ways of making improvements to the Park which is enjoyed by over 220,000 people a year. We would like to thank our colleagues and volunteers for their efforts in maintaining the high standards demanded by these two awards; it’s thanks to their hard work and dedication that we have been able to retain these achievements year-after-year.”
In Wales, the awards scheme is run by Keep Wales Tidy. Lucy Prisk, Green Flag Coordinator for Keep Wales Tidy added:
“Free access to safe, high quality green space has never been more important. Our award-winning sites play a vital role in people’s mental and physical well-being, providing a haven for communities to come together, relax and enjoy nature. News that 280 parks and green spaces in Wales have achieved Green Flag Awards is testament to the hard work of hundreds of staff and volunteers. We’re delighted to be able to celebrate their success on the world stage.”
